March 25, 2008 - this year 90th Anniversary of the establishment of Belarusian Democratic Republic celebrated by progressive Belarusians as Day of Freedom was marked by violence of Lukashenka regime towards participants of celebration. The arrests, beatings and clashes with riot police rolled through entire country but were especially violent in the capital - Minsk. Two of the main Belarusian independent cultural magazines are under attack of Lukashenka regime in Belarus. Nasha Niva - one of the oldest Belarusian periodicals celebrating 100-th anniversary is on the verge of closure under various artificial accusations from the regime. Literary journal ARCHE, one of the few remaining independent literary-political journal format publications in Belarus, was suspended by the government for three months. Support freedom of thought and expression in Belarus. Please contact your government representatives and communicate concern with this latest attack on freedom by Lukashenka regime.
